SFF Services Ltd has appointed John C Buchan to the role of Marine Assurance Officer in a move that will provide crucial support to the company’s Operations Team.

John is a well-known figure in the Scottish fishing industry having previously been skipper of the Peterhead registered pelagic/white fish trawler Sparkling Star. More recently, John was fishing master on board the fisheries research vessel Scotia, a role which carried many health and safety responsibilities.

John’s varied new role within SFF Services will include undertaking vessel inspections, preparing vessel inspection reports, providing project/HSE briefs as well as assisting in the delivery of fishing industry safety initiatives.

Welcoming the appointment, Operations Manager, Steven Alexander, said: “2011 was a very busy year for SFF Services and the future prospects for vessel work are very positive. The company’s management and board have looked ahead to the demands that a high level of activity will bring for vessel assurance and decided it necessary to add to the resource base.

“In recruiting John Buchan to the team we have secured, not only a respected and knowledgeable fishing industry figure, but someone who has demonstrated a real commitment to marine health and safety by adding a number of HSE qualifications to his fishing certificates. I am delighted to have John on board.”

SFF Services Ltd was established by the Members of the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation in 1986, and provides a variety of vessel and support services for the offshore marine sector, particularly the offshore oil and gas industries.
